Food of Karnataka

Karnataka offers several mouth watering cuisines. It is famous for its delicious vegetarian as well as non vegetarian food. The preparations have a special flavour and are not only popular among the people of Karnataka but are loved by people across the country. Let us have a look at the famous cuisines of Karnataka.

Dosa




Unlike the usual dosa which is a specialty of Tamil Nadu, the dosas prepared in Karnataka are quite thick. These dosas are equally scrumptious and are loved for their special aroma. Karnataka offers different varieties of dosa. These are:

Mysore Masala Dosa

This special dosa has a golden brown color and comes with a crisp exterior. Stuffed with deliciously cooked potato palya and scrumptious red chutney, the Mysore masala dosa is served hot with coconut chutney and sambar.

Butter Dosa

Popular by the name Benne Dosa in the state, this delicious variety of Dosa originated in Davangere city situated in Central Karnataka. Prepared with rice batter and a lot of butter, this dosa is served hot with coconut chutney.  Loved for its special flavour and scrumptious taste, Benne Dosa is readily available in all the popular restaurants across the state.

Set Dosa

These are thick pan cakes prepared with rice batter and served with coconut chutney and saagu. The dosa is garnished with grated carrot and coriander leaves that add a special flavour to it.


Saagu Masala Dosa

Another speciality of Karnataka, the Saagu Masala Dosa is stuffed with saagu. It tastes great with coconut chutney.


Kosambari

food of KarnatakaKosambari is a salad made by mixing lentils, green chillies, chopped coriander, asafoetida and mustard seeds. Some preparations also include grated carrot and cucumber. These additional ingredients make the preparation even more delicious.

Fish Ambotik

Fish Ambotik is a scrumptious preparation for those of you who love sea food. It prepared by cooking Shark fish in dried red chillies, cumin seeds, peppercorns, turmeric, tamarind, onion, ginger and garlic.

Bonda

Bonda is another popular cuisine of Karnataka. It is prepared by deep frying mashed potato, green peas and other vegetables dipped in gram flour batter. Bonda tastes delicious and makes for a great tea time snack. It forms a part of the menu during parties and other occasions.

Bisibelebath




This is a famous cuisine served in Karnataka. It is a simple preparation made by cooking together lentils, vegetables and rice. This easy to prepare dish does not only tastes good but is healthy too.

Majiige Huli

This is a scrumptious mixture of vegetables and yogurt. Cooked vegetables are simmered in yogurt with mustard seeds, curry leaves, coconut, asafoetida and various other spices. It tastes delicious when served hot with rotti.

Tovve

Tovve is prepared by cooking lentils extensively in different spices and ghee until they turn creamy. Various vegetables such as cucumber and ridged gourd are also added to it. The addition of these vegetables enhances its taste.

Menasina Saaru

This is a delicious rasam preparation prepared by cooking arahar dal and urad daal in ghee, pepper, turmeric cumin seeds and other spices. It is especially loved with rice.
