Karnataka Cuisines

Karnataka has a significant contribution to the culinary art of the country. The state has wide choices of recipes to offer to the people. The south Indian famous cuisines and recipes are also found in Karnataka. A typical Karnataka meal consists of rice, dal, curry and rasam, together served on patravali (banana leaves) or muttuga (stitched leaf plate) for which one has to sit on mats or raised platforms to take the charm.

Sesame and groundnut oil are used for cooking in interiors while people of coastal belt use coconut oil as a medium of cooking. People prefer vegetables, fish, meat and a good number of other sea foods. The cooking style include both Hindu and Muslim styles as the land was ruled by both Hindu and Muslim rulers.
