Karnataka has occupied a pride place in the field of art and crafts. The work of art and crafts are very much associated with the lives of people. You can see an extensive magnitude of Karnataka’s art and crafts in its palaces, royal homes and elite bungalows located in various parts of the state.

Karnataka’s craft tradition has been existing over centuries. The tradition is being transferred from the father to the son who is encouraged right from his childhood.

Ivory carving, stone carving, doll making, pottery, sandalwood craft and metal-ware are among the most important craftsmanship of the state. In sandalwood handicrafts, various objects like incense sticks, wood carved objects are made with the use of sandalwood. Karnataka’s leather puppets are also very awe-inspiring owing to its delicacy.

The famous Mysore paintings emerged from the time of Ajanta paintings. Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore displays a priceless collection of some old masterpieces of the paintings and also runs one school that gives intensive training on this art.
