The State Fire Services in Karnataka was initially launched in 1942 in North and South Bangalore under the administration of the Police Department. Later, due to re-organization of the state, other cities including Bellary, Hospet, Mangalore, Udupi and Raichur were also added. The department started functioning independently in 1965 under the Karnataka Fire Force Act 1964. Under this act, an independent Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services was established on 5th November 1965. One can even dial the toll free number – 101 in Karnataka to avail fire services in the state.

The main objective of the Fire and Emergency Department in Karnataka is to

  • To provide efficient Fire Fighting, Safe Evacuation and Fire Preventive measures to the citizens of the state.
  • To reach the affected destination within a span of 3 minutes.
  • To increase the number of fire stations in the state by placing hi-tech vehicles and equipments in the stations.
  • By adopting location finding gadgets in every emergency vehicle
  • To continuously improve the service conditions by implementing reforms
  • To live up to the motto of “We Serve to Save”
Currently, there are 168 fire stations spread across the state, out of which, 31 were established in 2012. The Fire Department in Karnataka also has various rescue vans stationed in Bangalore, Mysore, Gulbarga, Mangalore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamrjanagar.

Banking Services in Karnataka

The state of Karnataka is often known as the cradle of banking in the country. This is because seven of major banks in India, namely, Canara Bank, Vijaya bank, Corporation Bank, Syndicate Bank, Vysya Bank, Karnataka Bank and State Bank of Mysore originated from this state. The district of Udupi and Dakshin Kannada have the best distribution of the bank branches, that is, one bank branch for every 500 persons.

With the nationalization of the banks in the country between 1969 and 1980, many banks cam under the control of the Indian Government. While State Bank of Mysore, Vijaya Bank, Canara Bank and Vysya Bank have their headquarters at Bangalore, Karnataka Bank and Corporation Bank have their headquarters in Mangalore and Syndicate Bank at Manipal.

Police Services in Karnataka

The Law enforcement agency in the state is known as Karnataka State Police, headed by the Director of General Police, who is followed by Additional Director of General Police. Each district in the state is under of the charge of a Superintendent of Police.

Currently there are 906 police stations with 230 Circle Offices, 31 DPOs and 91 SDPOs. Each police station is under the charge of an Inspector, 2-4 Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Head Constables and Police Constables. In rural regions, the police stations are headed by a Sub-Inspector. Moreover, these rural police stations are divided into circles, which are further divided into sub-divisions that are headed by Deputy Superintendents of Police.
